20 07 06European Suppliers and Shipyards: a closer collaboration

BRUSSEL 20/7 Press Release EMEC - On September 26th 2006, the first day of SMM 2006 in Hamburg, the European Marine Equipment Council (EMEC) organises the international conference ‘European Suppliers and Shipyards: a closer collaboration’.

EMEC brings together equipment manufacturers, shipowners and shipbuilders to discuss the issues from a pragmatic and practical point of view. The conference focuses on the opportunities of collaboration in the design and production phases and how these can be achieved based on the industries own strengths.

As the world wide shipbuilding industry is benefiting from one of the largest order booms since decades, most shipyards have reached the limits of their building capacity and are fully booked up to the end of 2008. This positive situation has sparked substantial capacity investments. However, will the European marine industry be prepared for the period after 2008 when additional shipbuilding capacity comes on stream? The expectations and preconditions addressed by the speakers are a start to discuss a healthy future for the European maritime industries.

Stronger cooperation
What better place than SMM Hamburg, world’s leading marine show, to deal with market developments in the European maritime industries and the challenges laying ahead. A stronger cooperation between European shipyards and equipment suppliers will strengthen their competitiveness in world wide shipbuilding, while meeting shipowners requirements.

The conference gives participants the opportunity to be heard. If the European shipbuilding industry is to survive in a healthy way, something will have to change in the near future. At this conference, you can influence that process and network with evenly progressive counterparts.

Speakers include Richard Vie (Carnival Corporation), Klaus Lorenz (SAM Electronics), Nils Kaiser (NSB - Niederelbe Schiffahrtgesellschaft), Teus van Beek (Wärtsilä Propulsion the Netherlands), and Wolfram Lausch (MAN B&W Diesel AG).

For more details on this conference or to register yourself please contact EMEC, Mrs Paola Lancellotti (T: + 32 2 2309064 or E: pl.emec@skynet.be), Holland Marine Projects BV, Mr Nick Wessels (T: +31 (0)10 44 44 333 or E: nw@hme.nl) or have a look on the websites www.emec-marine-equipment.org or at the Events page at www.hme.nl.
